ACDC ‘Power Up’ Album art.

My first ever guitar solo on stage was ACDC’s ‘Back in Black’, aged 16. Not sure my school was entirely ready for it, but I felt like a hero for the evening. So, a tiny number of years later, when legendary Photographer/Art director Josh Cheuse called me up to ask if I could create the image for the front cover of the band’s 2020 album I was, let’s just say, a little bit excited.

Fast forward a few months, a global pandemic, a geo political meltdown etc, etc… and the album was finally out: and number 1 in 18 countries. I saw my cover literally everywhere. We built a whole host of digital ads all over the world, animations, teasers, neon-flickering mini-artworks redding up the world from Tokyo to Vegas, in neon celebration of ‘PWR UP’- The sense of anticipation and rock vandalism crafted fantastically by Mr Cheuse. And what a scorcher the album is ! The boys absolutely smashed it.

For the album image we tried all sorts of colours but red just seemed to permeate. The devilish, late night, evil Italian gothic horror red seemed to illuminate the crowned kings of rock n’ roll in a very 2020 way. I was given so much freedom to let rip by Josh and the band, but skilfully guided and encouraged in a real team effort. So much so that I was given the chance to make the next Music Video- for Demon Fire. Anything other than red for this would have been very very wrong indeed… watch this space :)
